And I am not at all convinced fear is the motivating factor behind everyone falling in line with fascism - many of them are fascists too, or at the very least they are aligned with enough of the goals to hold hands with them. Trump dying will not rescue us. This isn’t a snake, it’s a hydra.
Vance will have a small fraction of Trump’s support at best, and Congress knows it. There are already signs that the GOP is preparing for Trump’s end (e.g., Ernst isn’t running again). Without support, the GOP is fucked.
Look, it’s obvious we’re overall at least somewhat on the same side. I’m not trying to be feisty with you, I just think that attitude is a bit rose-tinted and wishful-thinking. Which I am myself guilty of frequently, so I don’t say that with judgment. Just…I don’t buy it.
Trump’s cult-of-personality status absolutely helped him win both elections he won. Full agreement. But once he took office this year and especially after all the shit he’s already pushed through, the power is NOT centralized on him, it’s on the *office of President*. Whoever that is.
The “Supreme” Court is still 6-3, has already immunized the office of president against any legal consequences, and everyone’s already falling in line with EOs that shouldn’t be gilded law. It’s no longer relevant who is sitting at that desk, they’re a dictator running the HF’s game.

Just because I believe you’re wrong doesn’t mean I don’t fervently *hope* you’re right. I grew up in GA long before MAGA was the name for the far right. I saw all the evil ugliness way back then. I can’t believe one figurehead dying will defeat it. Especially not after securing federal power.

If Trump had died before taking office or maybe within a month or two at most, maaaaaybe that could’ve been more helpful, but now that we’re where we are, his death is a brief party and then back to the fascist hellscape.
