Per social contract, is it on the person who breaks down a jigsaw puzzle or on the next person who assembles it to ensure all pieces are separated and mixed?

The former, but as someone who will assemble jigsaw puzzles, I'll do it as the latter rather than feel like I didn't really do it myself.

I believe the person who breaks it down is responsible for making sure all pieces are separate and that the ends aren’t damaged in the process, and starting the puzzle again requires a few shakes of the box first.
