I wouldn’t say that religion is hurting us, rather it’s the moral mis-application of the bible by those who want only to glorify themselves and their false ideology. After all, as Jesus said, the greatest and only commandments are to love God and to love others as you love yourself.
For me personally, religion hurt. Religion told me that the best god ever, who knew my future and loves me *more than anyone loves me* was perfectly fine watching me get assaulted and abused as a child. That's love??? That is who knows everything about me? Clearly, I'm not worth much.
I am sorry that you had to put up with so much pain. I get where you’re at I had an abusive alcoholic father as well as an abusive alcoholic husband. I was not trying to support any single religion simply trying to say that we misapply the bible all the time to suit our own egos.
