cops want- even need- people to assume anyone with a uniform or flashing a badge are legitimate. Their job gets very, very dangerous, very quickly, when people start saying "how the fuck could I know" as a justification for shooting a cop. to be honest, it's been excessive or ages.
You want to use undercovers, fine. Plainclothes, sure. But then get a uniformed officer for the arrest, and make THEM wear fucking IDs vissible to public. And no. brass badges don't count.
