i have read them and i don't recall any idiots saving the world but i can't claim my memory is perfect on this
googling reveals Sir Dagonet is an example of a bumbling knight!

Gawain comes off as a fool, or at least naive and over-confident, in the Green Knight poem. He totally misses the obvious passes his host's wife is throwing his way, and not just because he wants to remain pure ...
