Honestly the #1 reason for piracy is due to availability/accessibility. If games aren't accessible then they'll get pirated. You wanna get rid of piracy then make the games accessible. $90 games are not accessible especially when requiring a brand new $500 console.
This is also true. We're living in a day and age where most people are struggling financially. Crave & need escapism because of it. If they get outpriced, then... well, Life Finds A Way.
Streamer on Twitch named Thor put it best. He made a game which was heavily pirated in a South America country but he reduced the price in that country and now it's the area with the highest number of sales.
If you buy an older game from a reseller the original devs don't get the money. Also, if you pirate something, you're making yourself a copy and not taking a copy away from someone else.
ALSO!!! If you have the original code you can make mods/hacks of it which is really fun!! I'm working on one myself
It's better to just not give money to scalpers and cut out the middleman imo
Scalpers is very much the right word there.
100% this when it comes to games that Nintendo makes it impossible to get directly from them. So many older titles can't be played any longer without forking over obscene amounts of money to scalpers. It's infinitely better to pirate those games than it is to feed cash into a black market.
There are so many times when I'm playing older games that i WISH i could give the creators money for it yk but how am i gonna do that, mail a bunch of cash to their house
Unfortunately for Nintendo, they're not getting paid either way. Piracy or second hand.
