The problem with the US is the segregation. I don't just mean racial. I mean economic divide. We all live in bubbles with very little mixing going on. It is why I suggested ages ago that if Democrats want to win over Trump supporters for the next election, you need to actually go to rural poor areas

And yes, some people knew what they voting for and still think this is a good idea. There are many with buyer's remorse. Young men were particularly targets. I suspect many Hispanic voters have regrets. But... you never know with people. Ignorance is bliss until it isn't.

I’ve worked in rural poor areas (as a physician). They aren’t persuadable by and large because they are authoritarian followers and believe what the priest or minister or Fox News tells them. Few are capable of abstract critical thought and most never will be.

I live in a rural area. It is that type of elitist thinking that will continue this cycle. It also begs the question how my Democratic governor was elected not once but twice. Not everyone in a poor rural area is okay with the current administration.

The point is that to change this country we have to stop writing people off as a lost cause. We have to change how our parties lead and help write a new narrative. If we do not, and we survive this mess, it will just continue to happen.

I AM elitist. I believe in science and the human intellect and despise religion. How do you account for the deep red of all the rural areas on the map? What state are you from? I lived in Minnesota and saw the red tide wash over most of the non metro areas & now live in a blue oasis in Arizona

But I think for that very reason they overplayed their hand. The big military parade and the ICE goons shooting at protestors is reminiscent of the USSR in its last days. They have a tyranny for the moment but it’s really unpopular and they have to somehow hold onto it. No easy task.

ICE, along with everything else about this regime, is unpopular. They're not doing what we were told. They're not capturing dangerous gang members, they're taking working people with families, nursing mothers. ICE members are the dangerous, masked gang criminals. The parade is an insult to America.

Many Republican voted against Democrats. The difference between the two extremes is that the left advocates on divisive issues that are tangible (trans girls in girls sports), while the right adopts centrist language all can support: ‘Make America Great?’ And this masks the evil that underlies.
