Really? I thought it was higher than average for the given requirements. Shows what I know.

it starts at like 27k, which is honestly probably a deterrent for some people who have a higher standard of living and can't afford to do it for love of the game

That’s … really low for a federal job start level. Well, maybe not for law enforcement federal, I’ve no experience with that area.

ERO will start someone with zero experience or education as a GS5. When you factor everything in they get up closer to around 45k a year but thats still pretty bad in most major cities. Which is why most federal cops come over at higher GS scale/pay due to experience and such.

That’s a little more what I’d expected. I mean most jobs, government or no, don’t pay great city wages but that sounds more in line from what I know of current federal jobs in other areas.

Not to "well actually" but typical ERO agents with zero experience start around GS 5 and even with minimal overtime and all the weird bonuses the cops make as well as location it'd be closer to 45k and most advance pretty quick. And that would be someone with zero experience, a rare hire.

Okay that is more what I’d expect. (But also: no first or second hand experience with federal law enforcement. State, DOD, Revenue, and others yes. LEO/Feds no.)

I worked at ICE as a FOIA/PA analyst about 10 years ago and came in as a GS-9. Most of the new LE officers/agents i met were around a GS-7 and middle step, I can't remember ever meeting a GS 5 at DC HQ but I avoided ERO officers like the plague.

Yeah it's for sure not good pay in the LE field.

Do ICE agents get overtime and hazard pay and holiday pay?

Yes. And location differentials, LEAP and many other bonuses.

Looks like the $27k figure is based on the 2012 pay scale.

Yeah just base pay and thats if they would hire someone with zero education or experience that would get a higher payscale.

That’s high starting wage for a cop and that’s what these guys are. By cop standards they’re pretty laid back. They haven’t killed anybody and it’s been months. Regular police have killed about 500 people since the inauguration
