I wholeheartedly agree with this. Given the comical mistakes of early models and the technology’s indelible association with the emergent techno-fascist class, academics have generally been dismissive about the near term socioeconomic disruption of AI. This needs to change, and fast.
Good point.. there's a dangerous magical thinking that some ppl engage in.. if the people pushing something are prone to wild exaggeration and are elitist, then the tools the are promoting must be snake oil.
Asked to take a look, Ai "recognized a quadratic equation and then calculated the minimum".. It is really a new world. I agree, we have not come to terms with the changes.
