Our society has revealed itself to be full of unprincipled windsocks at the helm of many of our most important institutions. How do you propose we get the support of those people if only the other guys will punish them for failure to comply?

I like the sound of that, but why doesn’t that suffer from the same “cycle of revenge” problem, with the other side packing the Court next chance they get? That’s usually the fear people express wrt that idea.

I think a status quo where both sides repeatedly pack the court is pretty healthy — it means the court is more responsive to the democratic process and, as it grows larger, the whims and lifespans of individual justices become less important.

I guess I just feel like “fix things for now and hope the fascists don’t take over again despite that” isn’t as secure of footing to be on as imprisoning everyone who had anything to do with this mess.

Can’t imprison like 70 million Trump voters and still live in a free society.
