Policing as an institution in North America is the direct descendant of slave-catching "patrols" and anti-Indigenous colonial armies. Policing in the UK is a direct descendant of anti-poor laws, enforcement of land enclosures, and private armies. Police have never kept anyone (except rich ppl) safe.

Lateralized and inter-community violence committed by other group members is a thing, esp in inequitable societies. Many Black folks (historical and contemporary) have discussed their particular experiences with Black officers. If you think I'm wrong, i suggest you look it up for yourself.
Im not saying it isnt, but the key point behind my statement is that the more integrated the offices are eoth the community aka the more they know the actual ppl of the community the less likely they are to demonize those ppl. Period. How easy is it for you to rocket off & lash out in anger at
Someone ok the internet who you dont personally know? But a friend who you have a disagreement atleast in the beginning takes a while to build up to that point. And the reverse side of the coin is the more the communities know the officers the less they are to demonize them automatically. Even here
Ur trying to discuss this with someone who is a felon, survived the sackler opiate epidemic & managed to pull myself from homelessness into a successful small business owner. Its about the ripple effects the actions cause. Instead of cops telling the honeless to clear.out & leaving them on their own
They actually know then so they have a new spot they helped figure out where they could go for awhile. They arent shooting mental health patients etc & they sure as shit arent constantly able to claim they killed whoever they want because they "feared for their life cause they didnt know them".
