I think they believed he was the intelligent well polished businessman that he played on The Apprentice. Then when he was running for office, they admired his toughness, his boldness & he hated the same things they did. He gave the citizens “permission” to be racist, to disrespect women & so on.
I agree with all that when it comes to his hardcore supporters. But I have to believe a large percentage of those who voted for him are basically decent people who can see what a sociopath he is, and yet they still abandoned their morality to put him in power. That's what I don't understand.
I don’t think the average person knows how dangerous malignant narcissistic sociopaths are. If they did, they would be terrified.
