1/ If you can differentiate a legit #Labubu from a knockoff #Lafufu then you can separate legit news posts from fabrications! The popular toy has created a movement around authenticating real Labubus from counterfeits. That's great.

Text next to half image of a Labubu. If you can spot a fake Labubu, you can spot misinformationDemand for the viral plush toy is skyrocketing, and social media is full of tips for spotting the real deal from a The cute, creepy, snaggle-toothed toy is this summer's hottest accessory. But HERE'S THE THING: If we applied even half of that same energy toward vetting the information we consume, our feeds (and brains) would be better off. And hey, if learning how to spot knockoff toys saves democracy in the process. Bonus. Imamage of Impostor Labubu next to fake CNN screenshot headline with line through it and Impostor Content lable. Please let me know if you recreate this on your web site, or if you give me permission to do so on my blog, because this is an amazing lesson and I really, really want to share it with a lot more people.

We have plans to create a pdf of it, but won't get to that for a while (probably in August). Feel free to share the images as long as you credit us. Thanks for your interest!

2/ Now imagine using that energy to think critically about impostor media stories - it's possible! Tap through for #NewsLiteracy tips ⤵️

Several Labubus on each side of an image, heads turned in. Text: So what's a Labubu-loving, chronically online person to do?Here are some tips for spotting counterfeit claims. Laptop icon above text:Head directly to the source. Most impostor content comes in screenshot form, not a working link. Screenshots are easily faked and easily shared. Don't take the bait. Head straight to the outlet's website or social feed to see if the story exists. Think of it like checking the seller before buying: NO one wants to drop serious coin on a Lafufu disguised as the real deal. Labubu next to blurry-looking fake LafufuCompare it to the real thing. Just like a Lafufu might have too few teeth or a slight color variation, sometimes the giveaways are tiny. When it comes to impostor content, look for a missing byline, missing links, no timestamps or slight font differences. Misinformation relies on you reacting emotionally and sharing before you notice what's off. Slow down. Look closer. A little skepticism goes a long way.
