They largely stuck to a Top 50, if not Top 40, playlist with some oldies thrown in; but there were many crossover hits in the Top 40 back then. You'd hear pop, hard rock, r&b/soul, and some country in the space of an hour. Now, if you were still listening 2 hours later, you might hear them again...

Ok, you kind of sound like a young, so I'll just say that radio was different back then. There was loads of variety, but not a ton of bands to choose from in each genre? So we're saying that we (as olds) got to enjoy the variety, even if we heard "Cherish" over and over.
