OR maybe it depends on the vocabulary of who you associate with? I'm in northeast U.S. and I hear it often enough.

Me too! I used that in conversation in TX once, and someone actually thought that was one of the things the three kings brought to baby Jesus. I just commented, "Jesus, get a dictionary."
