The agriculture sector specifically has exemptions to many labour laws. You can be hired at age 12, no restrictions on hours worked other than it can't disrupt school, no fall protections required for kids working 6' or more off the ground...

16-year-olds can operate machinery that would require an adult in any other industry. There are already 500,000 children employed in the US' agriculture sector, exposed to pesticides, working around heavy machinery, suffering heat injuries, etc. Do you need more of that?
