When I was a Boy Scout they used to tell us the number one thing was to leave the campsite better than it was when you found it. So that it looked like no one had ever even been there.

They also taught us to cut down & strip everything in sight to build "shelters" & camp gear that never got finished. Even at that age I was confused by the hypocrisy

I remember an essay from the 70s that used the Boy Scout Handbook as a way to comment on the political BS of those days. "A Boy Scout does not wiretap his friends. "A Boy Scout does not bomb neutral countries, and lie about it." Wish I could recall author.
