So why listen to them? If aliens came down from the sky and said "we're going to criminalize having green eyes", why would anybody listen?

Money? It costs nothing to defend people and ignore bigotry. Likewise it pays nothing to be a bigot.

Ignoring bigotry is the opposite of defending people. Defending people is calling out bigotry wherever it exists. Anti-lgbt laws are bigotry. For any black person to defend bigotry is hypocrisy. And for any white person to spread bigotry is condemning our culture to an even deeper pit of hell.
