Exactly this. Attacking practicalities didn't work for Remain in 2016, and it won't work here. Instead we need a clear, alternative vision. Instead the weak weather vane for a PM seems determined to just point wherever the winds blow.

Particularly on issues that are fuelled by emotion like immigration and crime, practicalities and facts don't sway people, because people's views on them are, by and large, fundamentally detached from reality. Net migration could be 0 and people would still be convinced immigration is too high.
