Nice to see some science backing up what people have observed.
What this looks like. Minorities like Black & Hispanic Americans tend to score higher on measures of racial solidarity (salience, pride, etc.) b/c of their historical experience of marginalization. But as CN increases, Whites basically start to see themselves as disadvantaged racial minorities. 2/3
Here's what it looks like with our racial solidarity index broken down. Same pattern across items. In fact, for Black Americans, we see increases in CN correspond to declines in belief that Black Americans need to advocate for themselves in politics. CN is a religion of white identity politics. 3/3
Is an ideology that is not explicitly pro-black/brown necessarily pro-white or anti-black/brown? I feel like that last sentence needs some explaining.
“Much in common” and “work together” also going up with CN seems counter-intuitive to me. Am I reading this wrong?
Is it asking each group if they have much in common with their *own* group?
Thinking of some Black Republican politicians, I would expect that many think they "made it" on their own and do not want to identify with those whose politics they oppose.
