As much as anything else, it’s that which Starmer and Macron are up against when trying to convince Trump to provide security guarantees.

Starmer is going to have to get a hell of a lot closer to Macron in the event that Trump withdraws Trident from the UK. Those 250 French nukes might be the glue that holds things together.

And the concrete of that is that you can’t now have a security *guarantee* from Trump. European politicians and especially defence/ intel folk can no longer trust the current US administration or machine. Be interesting to note what the first public signs of this are.

Lewis, I don't know if you watched the whole thing but I thought it would be worth looking at. There were lots of times Trump talked about Biden did this and Biden did that. His idea of a flimsy security guarantee didn't help. JD Vance came up with Lind about Zelensky campaigning for Biden....

And Zelensky hadn't a clue what he was on about. Equally, he tried to push back on the idea that the US has provided the majority of the aid over Europe. Equally, Trump didn't get when Zelensky said that if they take Ukraine that he'd feel it in the US. Trump took a literal meaning rather than...

The point that if they go into Ukraine then maybe Poland could be next or countries where there are US bases or citizens there. It's true Zelensky did go through everything his country went through but equally Trump seemed to only care about making a deal favourable to the US before looking at peace

That Trump and Vance appear to get their foreign knowledge from watching video on X/Twitter. Certainly seemed to be what Vance indicated during the press conference. They basically imbibe what Musk and Putin send them.

Vance is far from stupid (unlike Trump). The problem is he's an amoral opportunist, who's cosplaying at being Trump's Mini-me for the sole purpose of a 2028 Election bid. I find that far more abhorrent than Trump, whose issues all go back to his mental instability. Vance has made a conscious choice.

Didn't say he's stupid, nor do I think he is, just that he seemed to indicate he gets his foreign knowledge from videos on X/Twitter. Despite what we might all casually say, I don't think anyone who reaches high office can be talentless. But in my estimation, Vance is vile. (As is his boss)

OP misses a crucial core point. The BunkerTroll doesn't get his news unfiltered either, as many have observed in the past decade(s). He gets print-collages on his desk. Remember, he once ordered old fashioned typewriters in 2013, after the WikiLeaks/Snowden hack. And this: bsky.app/profile/peip...

I actually think Vance might privately be very clever. Maybe he knows that the American secret service have an accident in store for Trump to enable him to become President. What he doesn't reckon is that it's an accident for both of them.

That's what I've been wondering for a while. Trump didn't achieve what was planned first time around, so they put in place handlers (Musk, Thiel, etc), and Vance has been promised the presidency - either at the end of Trump's term, or during it.
