Ballad of Wallis Island best film I’ve seen for about ten years.

Loved this little movie! Funny, tender, gorgeous.
Its a masterpiece
Where?
Thanks.👍😊
Agreed. Tim Key’s reactions, with almost imperceptible changes in his facial expression, are heartbreaking.
WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree — it’s a big player in my #YearofCuratingTheVibes movement. You might find something worthwhile in our review! Nobody saw it, but we felt it was special 🤗🐈🐈⬛🐈🐈⬛ So special we invented the word sweet-by-sweet-bittersweet to describe it kcookandcatsco.medium.com/sweet-by-swe...
Love the new (for me) term and will use it liberally!
Flattered!! 💁♀️
I totally agree. Just saw it yesterday morning. Blown away by it…
Totally agree!
It feels like cinema fell off a cliff after Covid and still hasnt recovered. I seldom go to watch films anymore. I prefer watching classics on streaming. You get the odd banger but most of them dont merit watching on a big screen.
I’m not sure about 10 years in my case, but agreed - a wonderful film.
Great film. The music is fabulous too.
Really? Saw it a couple of months ago... wasn't impressed.
Lovely enough film but honestly I was fairly disappointed by it
Thanks for the recommendation. Loved it. Beautiful and heartwarming. Laughter and tears. A sad and a happy ending.
It’s a great movie!! I have seen it three times already! 🍿
And download the soundtrack - absolutely gorgeous
Just watched it last night. Loved it!
I really enjoyed this film. The scenery, the humor and those characters.
I mean seriously, what an astonishing script. If anyone wants to understand Britishness, British humour, British culture, British landscapes- this is the film. Tim Key deserves every award going.
Every award is a bit of a stretch. Like, he was good in that charity match, but I don’t think it was enough to win the Ballon d'Or.
And his co-writer Tom Basden.
A film for grown ups. 👍
Great film loved it .so on that note as you are such a brilliant Journalist that I admire have you ever watched the incredible documentary Israelism ..based on American Young Jewish experience of education and Birthright ..it is incredible
And they had the guts not to bring Mulligan back for the big Richard Curtis ending. Top drawer stuff.
It’s an exceptional film. Going to see it again this weekend and can’t wait. Best film I’ve seen this year.
I also like Tim Key's London Pub Reviews podcast.
I saw it with German subtitles and they could not keep up with his jokes AT ALL
Hard hard HARD agree. I loved it. Such a perfect portrait of two flawed, heartbroken men, helping each other come to terms with their pain.
probably too few flags though...
Welsh. WELSH LANDSCAPES.
Still digesting. Still good. bsky.app/profile/boal...
Tom Basden too!
Haven’t seen it. But tell me about these “British landscapes”. Never mind the culture or humour!!! Do you mean English??
We're not allowed to say English. English is racist. As opposed to the lovely, egalitarian British Empire, which ended racism.
Ahhhh... Wikipedia says Wales. We are not even allowed to mention that Wales exists. Britain. It's Britain.
A thing of beauty 🌻👌
He can portray incredible sadness by subtle changes in his face. He's a very good actor.
Is that the Tim Key film?
It is. Do watch it.
