Disastrously, Trump is operating in an environment of increasing permission from the "Republican party", the Supreme Court, and compliant countries. The bottom is where Trump sees nothing further to extract from his surroundings. That could be a long way down.

This is old school Rand. Before he jumped on the culture wars, he used to champion taking congressional powers back from the executive branch (particularly with the purse and war), free trade, and actual free speech.
This part. Dude was a very classic libertarian- civil liberties was his jam. I certainly don’t agree with him often but he used to have some solid stances on those things.
I remember being a fan of him in my college years for exactly that. There was a time where he sounded (at least somewhat) sane.
