The news cycle is short. I'd rather learn how bad it was right now then right before the next election when everyone gets pissed off about being lied to. No one said they can't do the same book on the current occupant.

First save US democracy from current president. Then do post-mortem on past presidency. Like how you'd first take gas and matches away from the arsonist who's trying to burn your house down, and then return to debating what color to repaint it. There's nothing to repaint if you let it burn down.

I'd rather do the post-mortem now to get it out of the way. Better yet, the party can institute reforms to show that it learned some lessons. Without doing any of this you'll be surprised at how we keep losing elections and then pretty soon there won't be any elections.
