I canceled my 15 year subscription over the sane-washing of DT's rants and raves.
That’s what did it for me too. Cancelled the annual, got a refund, still had access until Dec 24. I guess they hoped I would change my mind. Nope.
Re-upping to help her own work get the clicks...This was her commentary when Bezos pulled the endorsement. www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/202...
This is kind of sad as a long time post reader
"Oligarchies thrive in deceit"
I wish #CarolynHax would leave @washingtonpost.com -- start her own thing (I'd pay), and I would be totally done with that fascist-loving rag.
Newspapers die because billionaires own them!
And justice dies when purchased by billionaires.
"Democracy Dies behind a paywall" I'll work remotely DM me.
Which news outlet can we trust?
Meidas Touch
Did you just figure out Bezos bought WAPO because has a monopoly business to protect?
Journalism dies at the hands of the oligarchy.....
What the fuck
That’s what I’ve been saying since they refused to endorse Kamala but I didn’t have enough followers on X for it to catch on. We need to repeat this every day.
Money talks. Integrity walks.
Newspapers won't exist soon.
Cancel your WaPo subscription in 2025 and support a local media outlet. I did this after the report of Bezos shutting down their endorsement.
Ms. Telnaes is a true patriot, in a period in our country's history when that word is abused for base purposes. I am in absolute awe of her talent ....and her unyielding commitment to a free press. Right on!!!
May the great and wise salmon-hatted orcas introduce human frailty upon the wicked yacht broligarch(s).
Pretty much
Meaning of deep throat under Bezos.
Newspapers dies in silence… aka In dictatorships no one hears you scream
Dictators silence the press, eliminate the writers/artists, control the judiciary and education- you are only allowed to learn what they allow.
We're almost there.
Yes, it is scary too.
Wow. You could not be more prescient.
When the Washington Post opened it's first remote printing facility in Northern Virginia in the early '80s, my high school band was tapped for the ceremony. Of course, we played the Washington Post March. They were a news stalwart. Change is the only constant; I just didnt' expect it to be so weak.
Exactly. This is why I'm building my channel, and I encourage anyone else who can speak truth to the situation at hand should do so.
Yes. Very good new slogan for them.
Can a convicted felon serve as U.S. President? If elected, would they be able to travel overseas to countries that restrict entry for convicted felons? How would the U.S. government function in such a scenario?
Just stop buying or reading them.
Musk, Zuckerberg and Bezos disgust me. Just shows how people are corrupted by excessive wealth.
Money corrupts as
Repeating myself but "Democracy Dies in Darkness" was apparently not a warning, but a promise.
Should it surprise anyone that Jeff Bezos owns the Washington Post. I unsubscribed immediately!
Definitely 👍
They have billions and they are still the weak, insecure little boys who were afraid on the playground. Trying to be the HBIC but despite having “made it” show that they remain the weak, frightened little school boys, cowering in the corner. Confidence can take a joke. They can’t. They’re insecure.
Don't just share on this forum. Tell someone in DC what you think about any issue that is important to you. It only takes a few minutes and best of all..it doesn’t cost any money. We don’t need money in politics. We just need people to participate. www.nationalfinancialplan.com
TV news, newspapers/magazines can’t be trusted (except the Atlantic).Profit over the truth. We complain on social media. But, what are we DOING? We need an organized resistance w/ a strategy & a plan. We all need to participate w/ the plan. We need to turn out in huge numbers, like Georgia.
I stopped attending church 30 yrs. ago because of the $$$ I knew was paying for Mercedes, fancy houses, shopping sprees while begging for more giving by church members to support "good works" I Tim 6:10 "For the love of $$ is the root of all evil."
🍊💩using the Nazi playbook
I'm all for capitalism but it appears the vast swath of the billionaire class care more about tax breaks, ruining the environment and personal greed. Trump opened up the Pandora's box of dishonesty as a way of life : no morals, no integrity, no compassion, and no harmony with nature. No Thanks!
No soul.
Extraordinary conciseness. Well done.
They have no concerns of a future. They are here now and they want it all while they are.
We must protect our independent media
The moment of my greatest despair this year was my local paper, the Post, killing its endorsement. This is part of a cascade of submission to the incoming autocrat. I am horrified and truly expect the worst. Bezos is standing in line to kiss the ring.
Absolutely correct. He "obeys in advance".
I think they need us more than we need them. America....start boycotting and protesting. I see most of America just taking the turn to autocracy with a shrug. We are truly a country of slugs.
On the money (no pun intended)!
THIS!!!! 100%!!!
Corporatocracy/technocracy snuffed out the light. What made America great was it's sparkle. There is no sparkle now just technocrats making America grate
The horrifying thing about this is that it’s not just rank and file MAGAts who will defend this censorship by the Post, it will also be defended by elected representatives who have sworn to uphold the Constitution.
The 4th Estate is no more. The whole point of the news media and journalism is to provide a channel of information between the powerful and the populace, so we know what they’re up to and they know that we can see what they’re doing. We need to take it away from those who don’t want us to know.
What a CEO would do to reduce costs and avoid any payouts. “Why do we need a cartoonist, Will? Spike it, she”ll quit”
And the rich want to control and steal everything away!
I’m challenging everyone here to unfollow or block the Washington Post account.
I'm also outraged by this. Editorial cartoons are powerful and Ann is top tier. Her use of Mickey Mouse in this is brilliant. The irony is now more people will see it than if it ran only in the Post. Who reads WaPo for news? It is the Opinion columns make the paper. Lose them, what's left? See below
More fact checking www.nytimes.com/2025/01/04/u...
Existing apparently as sensitive as Musk. Or with my original typo, Mush.
Bezos. Autocorrect. We need an edit function.
The 4th Estate is dead. The Washington Post that brought down Nixon is gone. The Fairness Doctrine needs to be reenacted and strengthened.
Bingo
@washingtonpost.com MUST BE ##BOYCOTT ed AND SENT PACKING FROM @bsky.app SEND THEM BACK TO #Xitter
I ended my subscription to WP as soon as the election was over and I noticed the tone of the paper changed Immediately afterwards. I just couldn't do it.
Newspapers die at the feet of our despot.
Precisely why I terminated my subscription weeks ago. You cannot trust honest news from a tool of Trump. Rather like trusting Pravda if you were a Russian citizen ... amirite?
Amazon is where we need to hit him.
WOW! This no holds barred article is a must read for anyone who cares about truth and integrity. No doubt Ms. Telnaes has a solid career as a political cartoon creator but I think she’s a better writer than her journalist colleagues. I’d love to see more articles from her in the future. Well done!
"Democracy dies from greed"
Democracy dies in avarice
This one did it for me: I no longer subscribe to the Washington Post. RIP (or in hell).
🎯🎯🎯
Thx for sharing this George. In rural America, we’re asking ourselves how to move ahead. What gives us solace is knowing that others are fighting against these oligarchs everywhere.
I think one of the things we Southerners have to do is be willing to call out our Christian neighbors for sitting silent while this happens, or worse, supporting it, but the latter are so indoctrinated, I'm not sure it's possible.
I’m tk the point I ignore most American publications anymore. I use a mix of overseas sources and American influencers and commentators.
#Bezos made a mess of the free press. #BoycottAmazon
Already do.We have never had Prime acct. Our friends can’t believe that.Even our family think we are odd ducks.
Canceled the Prime acct when Bozo stopped the WaPo from endorsing Kamala.
Me too
We saw this coming during the election. There is no pretense of journalistic ethics anymore, where Will Lewis & Bezos are concerned.
Works for the Democratic Party too.
“True Journalism, Is Printing What Someone Else Does Not Want Printed. Everything Else, Is Public Relations.” Author Unknown First Version Quoted, 1918. So, Donald Trump Got Elected..... www.dailykos.com/stories/2024...
Those tech and media executives are obviously oblivious to how the dotards handler seized the oligarchs $ - the dotard has already started & do they think a million is going to satisfy him? www.npr.org/sections/mon...
Unfortunately George this is just the beginning as u well know. The worst is yet to come in multitudes. As Bette Davis coined, fasten your seat belts. Big changes are on the horizon & like Maga we need to shout loud & clear our disgust. Are we mice or men & women. I think we are folks with vision.
I canceled my digital subscription to the Washington Post, because democracy dies in darkness.
Agreed!
So glad I cancelled when I did. Shameful.
One reason I felt guilty about canceling my digital subscription over Endorsementgate was that I value @anntelnaes.bsky.social ‘s viewpoint and work. Now that this has happened, it’s going to take a lot for me to support WaPo again. They once were courageous but now are under the thumb of Bezos.
Why do billionaires support Trump the Terrible?
Right
The paywall at the Washington Post can be bypassed by pressing the refresh button on your browser repeatedly while hammering the ESC key. Read all you want for FREE. You can also use the reading mode in the Firefox browser to bypass the paywall easily.
Jeffy is a wussie who likes big boobs and...
Control the courts, control the media, demand unswerving loyalty and allegiance… old playbook, new players… and folks being played.
like the scum who owns the LA times
Great new slogan. Now we need a national paper that is honest and fearless and one that “looks out the window to see if it’s raining”.
Tech Bros sucking up to Trump hasn’t worked GC. Bezos has lost key editors and millions of subscribers. Joe & Mika lost nearly a third of their viewers. And of course, Elmo has lost some 30M users to BlueSky. Generally, folks don’t care for chickenshit suckups.
Let’s keep it going! Hopefully Tesla can continue a steep sales decline.
Well robby... we know you are the expert on sucking.... not sure if your boyfriend likes you to suck up... but we all know you enjoy it in whatever way he tells you to..
Price-check your stuff on amazon and buy it somewhere else.
Good lord wtf happened to WaPo? So damn sad. Fascism trumps free press. Pun intended.
“Newspapers are murdered by their step-owner who bought them solely to exploit and abuse them”
I had to cancel my subscription to WaPo. I felt sad doing so. Why is all this happening? This genuflection by very wealthy people to a very bad man? Because THIS time around, those wealthy people know that Trump is going to use the power of the Presidency for vengeance. This is very bad.
MSM in the 2020s. “Profiles in Asskissery”.
This just shows the hypocrisy of for-profit enterprises pretending to have ethics. They are in fact inherently amoral.
This is sad as hell...
Cowards are irrelevant.
Good for her. I cancelled my subscription last year amid the many examples that they were too far gone. Another huge stain on a fallen institution.
When I canceled my subscription I told the person on the phone I was doing it because their boss is a coward.
Why unsubscribing is the ONLY thing to do
Right?
I do not know why a large segment of the US population has voted the way it has done. It seems very strange even from the madness of the UK. These attacks on democracy and freedom of the press are concerning. He's not even sworn in yet. EM is interfering here too
It seems strange to a lot of us also. Too many Americans are lazy and complacent. If any of us would step up, protest, fight back or join forces we could do great things. No one will do that. We are reaping what we sow.
I quit months ago
But determination can overcome cowardice as we r seeing.
Certainly blinded by fear.
Or "Money Before Truth"
America put it's balls in Putin's purse by way of trump and stupidity
Newspapers die when billionaires take over
I hope she continues her work. Her spot on cartoon commentaries are one of the few things I miss about WAPO. Sad to watch a once well respected newspaper cower before someone who doesn’t believe in democracy. Democracy Dies in Darkness indeed.
Didja like how the one guy with the biggest sack of money looks like Jeff Bezos?
@gtconway.bsky.social .. start a paper. That's a great tagline.
Yes, @anntelnaes.bsky.social Brava! Brava! Brava! Courage, leadership, integrity, heart.
For me, this was the last straw. I finally cancelled my WaPo subscription.
Billionaires are censoring America. “The cartoon that was killed criticizes the billionaire tech and media chief executives who have been doing their best to curry favor with incoming President-elect Trump. There have been multiple articles recently about these men with lucrative government”
“contracts and an interest in eliminating regulations making their way to Mar-a-lago.” Will @billmaherofficial.bsky.social discuss wokeness again and again and again?
Easy to see where the overwhelming majority of greed sits.
They got the slogan entirely correct. And just dimmed the lights.
Its way past time to boycott everything bezos
If I don't see a steep drop in subscriptions I will be highly disappointed
Apparently democracy does in darkness is their business model
Which is exactly what the new owner wants to happen.
“Newspapers die in complicity”
YES!! So appropriate George Conway: "Newspapers die in cowardice." As an old (80), retired newspaper editor/reporter/photographer, I find the chickenshit action of WaPo truly disgusting! Kissing butt of Trump, et al, is feces-coated gutter trash.
I will resubscribe when the paper is owned by someone who gives a shit about truth and freedom.
🎶 The Day, the First Amendment died…. 🎵 youtu.be/iX_TFkut1PM?...
Jeff Bezos sucked up to Trump to stop the moron Elon from trying to put his space program out of business. Given the choice, should he just allowed that to happen? What would you do?
Not sell out democracy. That kind of money can do other useful things like save lives.
Selling out democracy? So the WaPo is what stands between democracy at a totalitarian government? That's nonsense. Most voters, especially Trump voters, didn't even follow the election in the news. Why do you think Trump won? It makes zero difference.
The billionaire snowflakes 🤴🏻❄️
Democracy is dying in broad daylight
Donald Trump has a lovely, rotunda booty. I'd love to whip it out and sink my man pole into his brown entrance.
The media dies in cowardice. Sigh!
So, Bezos refuses to pay his workers a decent wage & provide decent benefits & health protections BUT he’ll donate a million dollars to Donald Trump, who himself is a billionaire, for a party (inauguration). Republicans make The Gilded Age & Robber Barrons look like Mother Teresa #Amazonstrike
Great slogan! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Well, they certainly die when they drive their subscribers away. I'm one of the more than 200,000 people who immediately CANCELLED their WaPo subscription.
Gonna cancel mine too.
I don't think it matters - when a company like Amazon owns it, WaPo isn't a source of revenue for them it's a way to control the narrative and influence the population.
Amazon doesn’t own the Washington Post, Jeff Bezos does. He bought it with money from his “cookie jar.”
Money saved. Let the magats subscribe. Oh, that's right: They can only spend their SSI 💰 on booze, drugs, and tattoos.
I wonder if ABC News understands what they did when they settled with Trump? Or if they even care?
I don't think they did. Just did what their legal team recommended. So dumb. No long term thinking involved, but hey, that's why we have melting ice caps and huge hurricanes, etc.
I’m sure the journalists at ABC News understand and care. Their Disney overlords, not so much.
Then what good are journalists?
If it wasn’t their (the journalists) decision to settle then there was probably little they could do about it.
When writing of today’s “Journalists” please be sure to put them in quotes to reflect the lack of any true journalistic or ethical standards that would allow for such a title to be earned!
I think they’re too big to care. They consider their anti-democratic actions as “calculated risk and collateral damage”. Sad.
bsky.app/profile/svar...
How ‘bout, “Some newspapers live in infamy”
Democracy can't function without a free AND HONEST press.
Not newspapers. Let’s be clear. Billionaire owned media die in cowardice.
So how are your cartoons going to get out there? What are you going to do to continue to achieve freedom?
All major news organizations should be forced to be public corporations.
Yep, absolutely.
I’ve cancelled my subscription.
Add Tim Cook to the cartoon, sadly.
Also “Democracies die in cowardice.”
It's doubly disturbing that they'd kill the cartoon, because it's the "other side" of complicity - first, they give money like a preemptive bribe, second they quash internal resentment of the preemptive bribe. They're doing the authoritarian's work for him. Ann is a hero. Billionaires suck.
It's very disturbing..makes the People's March rally tomorrow that much more important. #14thNOW
I understand it’s supporting journalism, but still glad I dropped my WaPo subscription.
“How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world.” WS
I cancelled my subscription
"The Washington Post Kills Democracy" Or "The Washington Post Throws Democracy Over a Cliff" Or "The Washington Post: Money trumps Democracy" Or "The Washington Post: Oligarchy is the New Democracy"
Oligarchy oppression
Sadly, democracy is dead.
How much more money does Bezos need? Or any of them?
It seems the US is importing the South African liberties system during its apartheid , Indian Castes system and corruption, and a German lifestyle from the 18 century when many immigrants to America benefitted of cheap labour and free speech issues.
Most other countries have had to go through an era of racism and unfortunately now it’s our turn.
‘Now’. Boy, are you going to be surprised when someone tells you about that whole slavery thing.
Actually your right.
?
We had our turn.
And greed.
Sounds like the Don Draper Op Ed “Why I’m Quitting Big Tobacco”. Also Ashley Parker is joining The Atlantic.
I had to cancel my subscription to WaPo, sadly. This ring-kissing of Trump is a travesty.
I canceled too, but Ann's work is one big reason I hesitated. I hope she lands somewhere fantastic!
I hope she migrated to The Atlantic, like some of her (erstwhile) colleagues.
What a shame. This could be the nail in the coffin! Bye bye Bezos!!! I hope!
Democracy Dies in Darkness was an affirmation.
👍
It's dominoes! A press ready to rally the world to fight for democracy on the soil of other countries, but not their own. And yet we were sold on American exceptionalism.
Trumps been stealing / grifting $ off his supporters for 9 years ... Stop the Steal... Help me defend my self from the deep state ... and these vile Vichy Oligarchs just bend the knee and cough up the $$$. It's grotesque.
New Slogan courage is the Washington Post's lauded exceptions.
LA Times is a disgrace
Cancelled mine right after that lame-brained decision to withhold an endorsement. My friend Alex says the Financial Times is the beacon of truth in this turbulent sea of fascism and fealty. Starting my subscription soon…
I saw one of their journalists on PBS a couple of weeks ago. She was good. She said that the markets are due for a correction very soon.
“Newspapers die for no one but their money”.
Great point!
I am so embarrassed to have a journalism degree. The US media are worthless.
Nah. The Washington Post is the darkness.
Everyone here needs to follow her on BlueSky.
When Milton Friedman wrote his famous essay about corporations moving to a maximization of shareholder value, I wonder if he imagined the lack of morality of corporate leaders? Did he imagin corporate leaders working against democracy around the world to maximize profits?
“Democracy is Killed by Obeying in Advance”
Spreading lies with just repeating it on public space should be prohibited and punishable by law, even more then saying it in the first place (Free speech)
Bezos is a coward
I finally turned on msmbc, knowing Joe wasn't on, and still disappointed!. They are still kissing the ring
Yes. Yes. Yes.
When Bezos the Coward killed the editorial endorsing Harris, I cancelled my subscription. I always enjoyed Ann’s cartoons. For all his money, Bezos is a frightened little man.
Yes, one of many.
Newspaper die with billionaire ownership.
That does seem to be the slogan. They should at least remove the old one. Such hypocrisy.
Boycott Amazon
