Canadian Tire money used to mean something. If you paid cash, you got 4% back in Canadian Tire money, as an incentive not to use a credit card. All of that changed with the CT-branded credit card. Pocketing CC fees and interest made them more money. (see next)

Now you only get Canadian Tire "triangle points" *IF* you make a purchase using their credit card. If you have a regular Triangle Rewards card, you get pennies. The whole customer loyalty program became a consumer debt game. Enshittification at work. (see next)

Back then you could pool, share and even trade your Canadian Tire money. It was almost cash. Some shops even took it (sure, there's stuff at Canadian tire they'd want). But no. MBAs and spreadsheets, all the way down. #dumpstersallthewaydown
