The extra deduction for 65+ will lower their taxable income. SS income taxes kick in over adjusted gross income of $25K, so less goes back to the trust fund.
Taxes on SS benefits are directed to the SS Trust Fund. Eliminating or reducing those tax revenues will have an impact on the fund. Currently 4% of the annual SS revenue comes from taxation on SS benefits.

I received it too. I immediately went to my SS account and stopped having 12% deducted from my check. This is great for the next 3 years then they start taxing it again but the billionaires keep their deduction forever. A big increase to my income? Eh maybe. The cost to working poor is not so good.

So a nothing burger if your income is 80k single.
If you're single. I see it as all social security income will be tax-free. If you're collecting 80k retired you wouldn't even care about the 5k you would have to pay in tax. On the other hand, if you're main income is SS then you would have an extra 5k to pay for the Medicare they'll screw us on.

The bill doesn’t eliminate the Social Security tax. Provides a tax deduction for those who qualify. The tax deduction: TEMPORARY and EXPIRES in 2028. Provisions benefiting wealthy individuals and corporations, are designed to be PERMANENT. The Bill is a win for the wealthy. A lost for Americans.
It does nothing to the tax treatment of Social Security benefits. Nothing. There is some language in the bill involving a deduction for being a senior, but it is unrelated to Social Security. I question the value of that deduction and how it interacts with the SALT increase and standard deduction.
The senior bonus deduction language prevents anyone under the age of 65 who is a SS beneficiary from qualifying for the deduction. For example: Disabled and under the age of 65 or children who receive benefits of a deceased parent(s) do not qualify for the deduction.
Like I said, it has NOTHING to do with Social Security. There is nothing in the "BBB" regarding Social Security Benefits. If you scan the text, zippo. If you just scan for "Social Security" there are 91 instances of the text, but usually in conjunction with "number" as a restriction to something.
It doesn't directly alter the calculation of Social Security taxes but for over 65 higher income individuals it can indirectly affect the taxability of Social Security benefits.

I was taught this too. .gov, .org, .edu to be trusted but especially with .gov and how this regime manipulates data, can’t trust it. It would be cool to know good sources to learn how to better identify website credibility.
CAARDS, RADAR, CRAAP…lots of good acronyms to check into for kids and adults to learn. I suppose I’ve Will come for use at some point, but it’s worth the risk.

It's not tax relief. It's a deduction. And you have to be over 64 to use it and very few will Zero out. Social Security money has already been taxed and it's against the law and the Constitution to be taxed twice
Social Security Recipients should NOT pay a penny in federal taxes on their social security income. If audited, refer IRS to email you received from the Social Security Administration!!!

Saw the email on the SSA website. Also in my email. It wasn't that specific. It praised the big beautiful bill and said married making 120k would get blah blah. It was a rahrah post. It indicated the emails were pd. by us taxpayers. email in inbox same text as website.

The exemption really has nothing to do with SS. If you are 65+ but don’t draw SS yet you still get the exemption. If you are 62 and draw it you don’t get the exemption. The exemption expires in 2028. 44% of SS recipients already don’t pay taxes on SS. 0 details in the email. Misleading as heck.

My wife and I both got it. We were infuriated. Small print at the bottom: "This email was sent to [email address] by the Social Security Administration, and was produced and disseminated at U.S. taxpayer expense."

I will start receiving SS this month. Guess I won't be declaring it as income. I've got the email to prove it. I'm sure that appealing to logic will work with this administration.
IF you are required to file at all there is a box for it on your tax form. You do have to report it when filing, but that does not mean it will be taxed. It depends on other fators, mainly your EARNED income reported that year.
I got it, and the phrasing raised my BP. It fails to mention the garnishment of benefits to those behind on student loan debt, itself a huge form of predatory lending.
