If I were to do an episode on ketamine, what would you like to hear and who would you like to hear it from?
If I were to do an episode on ketamine, what would you like to hear and who would you like to hear it from?
Elon Musk please
Joke answer: Robert Evans. But also, serious answer: @iwriteok.bsky.social, right?
would love to hear about its potential as a mental health treatment for ptsd/depression/etc, harm reduction resources, and general de-stigmatization. i’ve seen a lot of backpedaling on the left about its efficacy & legitimacy thanks to musk
Which sucks. I can say I’m alive today because of ketamine assisted psychotherapy. I’m damn lucky I had the money and support to access it and it breaks my heart to know that the already tough access will only get tougher
Cautionary tale on associated uropathy with chronic recreational use. Those people are so uncomfortable and we have no clue what to do to help them long-term. Even abstinence doesn’t help at that point, unlike cannabis-induced hyperemesis
Some horses
I’m an almost psychologist and have *thoughts* Mostly I just want people to be excited but skeptical so that we can get more data. This whole “excited and sure it cures everything” model is more worrisome.
OH! And maybe someone to discus the particulars with the NIMH study (unless it’s been defunded). Like why use the DSM 4 definition over the 5? It is going to limit generalizability and might obscure the change agent.
EMS and EM have had a complicated relationship with ketamine in the last decade. At first, viewed as a practically risk-free way to sedate "excited delirium." But then the relationship with death in police/EMS custody became more prominent in the media. Sooo lots to unpack there
I have both friends and clients (I'm a therapist) who receive Ketamine treatment to treat (treatment resistant) depression and had positive results. It could be good to get the word out about that aspect.
Yes!
How easy is it to balance flatware while you’re on it. I think Elon has some opinions.
What's the deal with these "ketamine infusion centers" I've seen popping up all over the place
I’ve been using it for 25 years in practice. Had my therapy training from Phil Wolfson and am on the board of directors for KATACanada, helping establish provincial guidelines.
Someone studying or working on ketamine therapy. I utilize it for my depression and it’s been a game changer but I have zero clue why it works (just glad it does).
I like hearing from all people involved: therapists, patients, recreational users, researchers. They don’t all have to be in the whole episode but personal accounts are useful, with your editorializing.
I’d love to hear from a therapist who goes guided ketamine therapy for treatment resistant depression and/or someone who has been on the receiving end. Or a pain specialist who can talk about how it can be used to reset opiate receptors and why it’s harder to prescribe ketamine vs opiates
Legal uses, possible differences in pharmaceutical vs street, reality of transmission through skin, and, apropos of nothing in particular, effects of long term use on personality and decision making.
Great questions
Thanks, I am basically an AI regurgitating @ryanmarino.bsky.social ,lol.
If you do the episode on ketamine you won't remember anyways 🤪
I was gonna suggest @ketaminedoc.bsky.social, but I think he deactivated?
I’m back. Thanks
this feels like a roundabout way to summon robert
It’s intended medical uses versus what recreational users may be looking to get out of it would be a good start.
I don’t have any suggestions at the moment, but I’d be very excited for a ketamine episode. I’ve actually taken it for depression before. I’ve tried more meds than I can count, and none of them came close to matching ketamine’s effectiveness. It was miraculous. Sadly it’s much too expensive. :(
Not to be one of those people about grammar, but do you mean an episode about Ketamine or an episode where you are taking Ketamine? I'd be interested in both but for very different reasons.
Sure
Esketamine for depression - efficacy, etc.
I feel like pain management. ED use it for sedation but long term effects a pain management maybe even addiction medicine doc would know better
I used to give IV ketamine for severe pain refractory to opiates for oncology patients and the results were a life saver. I was always curious about how the dosage and effects of that compare to typical recreational use - difficult to wrap my head around continuous infusion vs intranasal comparison
In general I'm very interested in learning more about the risk profile in medical and recreational settings.
Exactly. It's importance in therapeutic settings compared to its dangers in aiding world-dominating thoughts in extremely rich, narcissistic individuals (as a purely hypothetical example)
Maybe Bryan Quimby of the podcast "Guys" fame? I'm pretty sure he had a successful therapy with the stuff.
I’m not familiar but I’ll take a look
I have a pretty good sense of the clinical uses but am completely naive to the way it's used recreationally and specific risks or considerations there.
@iwriteok.bsky.social should be on it. I hear he's done all the drugs
i have been sober a while
I didn't say you were on them. But you have done them
But you’re still the go-to on gas station drugs, right?
This is also my suggestion
Idk man you on ketamine could go a lot of different ways.
Robert Evans of course.
I’ll ask @iwriteok.bsky.social
Grimes.
🤭
On "ketamine" or "on ketamine"?
Yes
