14 months ago, I stepped wrong in a parking lot and damaged my ankle. At first, the Drs thought it was a severe sprain. But 4 months later, when it wasn't healing, I got an MRI and learned I'd actually broken it and torn the ligaments on both sides. [1]

Whew! Enjoy the freedom It’s the best feeling ever. Similar situation for me except surgeon who did my much delayed dx & surgery did damage that required three more surgeries to fix. It was pure torture for 3 plus years.

I’m here to say: the healing keeps happening 2+ years later. I’m old and have regained the ability to do a one legged squat.

Late January, I had surgery to reconstruct the ligaments and remove bone chips. No weight bearing for 6 weeks. Learning to walk again with physical therapy. Today was the 6 month follow-up. Ortho surgeon says everything is healed and I don't need to see him again. [2]

I'm so sorry you've had the go through this long journey. These kinds of injuries can be so hard. Your first doctor should've done an X-Ray to see what was going on. I'm sorry.

They did - I had multiple x-rays. The bone chips didn't show up. 😞 It apparently happens. I sometimes wish I'd asked for an MRI sooner, but might-have-beens don't change the present. I'm holding onto I made it thru...we made it thru (I had to lean on my family a lot).

oh that's good/bad. at least it feels more like there was nothing that could've been done at the time. regret makes it harder. i'm glad you're through the worst of a long and painful thing. hope bangtan were there for you. i've leaned on them quite a bit myself.

Same to all that and Bangtan was absolutely there for me - music, shows, and ARMY keeping me company virtually. 💜

I’m so glad you got the surgery and are recovering. I also turned my ankle a few years back and thought I broke it, but after the x-ray came back “clean” they booted me up and told me it would get better and tried to show me how to walk in the boot no matter how many times I said NO I CAN’T PUT ANY—

—WEIGHT ON IT AT ALL WITHOUR SCREAMING AND BLACKING OUT. But I was left to “recover” for months with no improvement. Months turned into a year until I finally got in to see a surgeon who ordered MRI’s that revealed the extent of the ligament and cartilage damage, & that I was going to need surgery—

—several MRIs and more months consulting and checking on healing (wasn’t healing) before I got surgery. By then, my whole body, especially the right leg had undergone massive atrophy and de-conditioning. My recovery was very long. :( Keep taking it easy and slow, don’t try to rush while you heal!

Oh gawds! That....I know how bad my recovery was and I'm feeling for you right now!! I am absolutely focused on keeping going without pushing too hard - I have no desire to screw my ankle up again.

It has been a long journey to full recovery (or as close as I'll get). I'll have to stretch and do some exercises daily, if I want to keep my mobility. But today? Walking out & feeling free, I almost cried. I made it through. Thanks @krystara.bsky.social for being my PT buddy. 💜
