Asking Google AI for some suggestions regarding reducing greed. And mildly surprised by Its answer.

Punitive justice Ancient laws and legends often included severe punishments for theft and greed to discourage such behavior. Biblical law: The story of Achan in the Book of Joshua provides a dramatic example of greed being punished by death. Achan and his family were killed for keeping spoils from Jericho, an act forbidden by God. Medieval beliefs: In the Middle Ages, greed was metaphorically associated with the disease dropsy, which caused unquenchable thirst. Dante's Inferno punished misers and hoarders by making them fight for all eternity. Community justice in the Middle Ages: Some towns used public shaming and even murder to punish greedy individuals who hoarded property or used their wealth in a manner seen as antisocial. Researchers have found that some communities did not see private land ownership as superseding the common good.
