Wider sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, real-time bus info, and more. 3rd & Main upgrades make Pioneer Square more walkable, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. Celebrate with us tomorrow, Aug. 7, at the Pioneer Square Art Walk (5-7 PM) and see for yourself. sdotblog.seattle.gov/2025/07/28/b...

Aerial image of 3rd and Main, looking north. On the left is a BEFORE image showing deteriorated street conditions and a narrow sidewalk. The AFTER image on the right shows new concrete streets and a significantly widened sidewalk and new bus stop. A view of 3rd Ave S looking south. Before image shows poor road condition and narrow sidewalk. After image shows new concrete, new lane markings, and a much wider sidewalk. A before image of 3rd Ave S, looking north toward the Columbia Center and Seattle Municipal Tower. The street is asphalt and in poor condition. An after image of 3rd Ave S, looking north toward the Columbia Center and Seattle Municipal Tower. The street is newly paved with fresh concrete.

This is such an improvement, great work. This area feels much safer. As someone who used to use this bus stop daily, I wish it was done when I was commuting there!

Hire an actual photographer to get your point across?

The people who actually use this stop will love these improvements and they aren't on Bluesky. Thanks for this update to a vital stop!

These are super thin improvements. Practically the same street as before.

Are you taking credit for the trees having more leaves in the after picture or is there some other change we ought to be seeing

If you've ever gotten off the bus at this stop, you know how much better this is.

The bus stop looks good, I just don’t know what we’re supposed to be seeing in the other photos

I think the confusion is that the text highlights pedestrian improvements 'and more' and the 'and more' is in the last two pictures, which is just a repaving of a poorly paved street, as highlighted in the alt text. The first two pictures show widened sidewalks, etc.

One less lane for cars and and additional lane of sidewalk

It was sooooo bumpy. 3rd & Main is the termination point for a bunch of bus routes and a stop for many additional ones. It was bone-rattling. Also crowded, so the wider sidewalk helps.

Every trolley bus on 3rd uses this block south bound. This will also reduce Metro maintenance costs from rough roads.

When they detoured the buses to the opposite side of the street I missed the cord pull once or twice. I was so used to knowing when I hit 3rd from the jostling

For me it was the huge puddles that would form on the sidewalk

Oh right. That sharp corner would get flooded because the drainage was so bad.

What trees are you talking about? The before photos are winter and the after photos are summer? Helpfully they include alt text of what we’re looking at: better and new streets with a widened sidewalk

New street and new sidewalk New street and big sidewalk Poor quality asphalt street Newly paved street

Sidewalks are much wider in first two. I’m not seeing much change in 3/4
