You are in serious need of a history lesson. The Republican party in Lincoln's time was the liberal party, while the Democrats were the conservative policy pushing "states rights". Things have changed a lot in 160 years.

Yes, I love how the Republicans always want to claim Lincoln as one of their own. But by today's standards he'd be closer to a Dem. Maybe even an Independent. But labels are just that. Right now we're dealing with moral vs. amoral and lawless v. lawful. And we all know where we stand.

It gets a little sloppy because these groups have to reinvent themselves somewhat regularly as they become widely hated. 100 years ago they proudly wore the label Fascist, before that Confederates, Torries etc. But it's always the same small minded bitter greedy assholes.
