Took my first Adhd pill today and I'm supposed to get my period tomorrow. Didn't know what to expect and it did have some effects but you mean there will be more of an effect after my Uterus is done? O.o

Well it really depends on a number of factors, like which med you're taking and where your hormone levels currently are, but yeah, it's entirely possible! Estrogen and progesterone have a major effect on the efficacy of ADHD meds bc they're so closely linked to how our brains deal with dopamine.

So especially if you're using the stimulant type of ADHD meds, there's a good chance you'll find the meds work great for roughly 3 weeks and then barely seem to exist during your period.

That makes a lot of sense. Also explains why my brain is around that week more scrambled than usual. I just didn't think about that connection. Did a bit of research and mine are non-stimulant. I'm curious if there's going to be a difference in about a week.

Yeah, I remember coming across the info on TikTok back when I was trying stim meds, so I did some research and yeah, no one ever really talks about it, but estrogen levels in particular have a major impact on dopamine and how our brains use it, so your menstrual cycle can and will fuck with the...

...whole system, meds or no meds. Non-stim meds work a little differently, and I don't believe they're as susceptible to hormone changes as the stim ones are, but regardless, your cycle will still affect how your brain intakes and uses the dopamine and norepinephrine it gets, so you definitely...

...might notice you feel your meds less effective during your period. All that said, I'm also on the non-stim type now, and just so you know, that type doesn't become fully effective until they've built up in your system a bit, so regardless of where you are in your cycle right now, if you just...

...started taking them you're probably not getting the full effect yet. For me it was a slow build for about four weeks or so, and by that point I was feeling that they were working really well. :3 This is my first period since starting them (bc I take the three-month birth control pill), and I...

...suspect that how I've been feeling today is less about the meds and more just the fact that I'm being punched in the face with all of the PMS symptoms at once. lol
