Then why do you pay insurance? I felt the same over twenty years ago and just stopped paying it. The public system is fine. If it’s urgent you get treated.

Because lots of necessary treatments (eg joint replacement) aren't urgent, and if I get cancer again I don't want to have to wait months to start treatment. I get a higher standard of care because I pay for it. I just think everyone should get that same high standard via a properly funded Medicare.

I’ve just had cancer, strict timelines in the public system where I live. I do get the joints stuff but the waiting lists are because certain specialties use the private system because they can charge more. In excess of their actual value. We’re actually eating ourselves under this system.

I've known people with cancer have to wait months for treatment. I had a few days wait at most. But I do believe everyone should have access to the same high quality treatment, free of charge. It's a basic right. And I'd be happy for my private health premiums to go towards paying for that.

I’ve always felt like that. I’d have happily paid more to get an efficient equitable system.

Not if you need a joint replacement
