All fantastic options. BUT are they positioning themselves? We can wish for contenders all we want but who is actually positioning themselves for the national stage? We did this last time around and to the delight of maga we fought amongst ourselves and lost.

I would say that engaging in EFFECTIVE resistance to MAGA shit is a much better way to position themselves than posting memes on Twitter while hanging out on MAGA podcasts and agreeing with folks like Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk about human rights issues.

Just to reiterate: engaging in resistance is not the same as throwing your hat in the ring. And again, i don't disagree with your points or those options but I worry we're setting ourselves up again because we'd rather argue about that unicorn perfection.

In 2005 nobody outside of Illinois had any clue who Barack Obama was. Trying to crown an heir to the party years in advance has always been a losing strategy when Democrats did it before. Set the expectation that we demand a fighter with certain positions now. Let them compete to embody that.

I don't either. But having the far right run our country means that not only continues over-seas, but happens here. So that is a lose-lose scenario. You vote how you want, but if we get another round of far right in 2026 or 2028 I don't want to hear any bitching.

First it’s already happening here. It has been for a while. Second (and most importantly) I have trans loved ones. Putting them in danger so we can elect politicians who would like my loved one to not exist is a lose-lose scenario for me.

So do I. She is Florida. You think I don't worry or care? Democrat is better than Republican for trans. I would prefer a full-on support, but getting rid of those who wish to erase them from the world is my #1 priority.
