I just think back to when we had a cat when I was a small child and my sister begged my mom for hamsters. Obviously my mom caved and got them, so then the hamsters get out and no one can find them and the cat just casually strolls up with the hamster very happy and very alive in its mouth lol

Rats are so much smarter than hamsters, and yet also less likely to pointlessly escape and get themselves killed in my experience

Oh hamsters are assholes. Rats are actually fantastic pets. I personally like giving them puzzles and watch their brains work. They're incredibly intelligent and weirdly sweet. They flat out dont bite outside of being blind as shit and thinking youre food lol.

Yeah, properly socialized rats legit feel and express love and just want to play with you and their friends and be shielded from anxiety.

It kinda sucks they got blamed for the plague because that could be a big pet option for a lot of people.

Unsocialized rats are a whole other thing. They will straight up eat anyone they perceive as an inconvenience

Agree with you both 1000% they do have a smell but theyre overall an elite family pet. 2 to 3 year commitment. And again. Im not a rat person! The first two we got were babies meant for snake food. I could hold them both in a ball in my hands and theyd just curl up together.

Hypoallergenic. Very loving. Instantly trainable. Low effort. Think of the all the times we’ve heard and an elderly person needs a pet for companionship.

And i dont even like rats. Its the intelligence they spew the more youre around them that made me like them.

All I know is when I was still living in the Philippines, I was watching TV and heard some pitter patter coming from the kitchen and saw this huge rat walking towards the dining area. I immediately hollered nat it and it slowly went back. "Ok, I'm not wanted here." 😂
