NATO's an existential threat to Putin who threatens nuclear war if NATO gets involved. So NATO (as a whole) hasn't been an option to overtly do anything to help Ukraine. The US's reputation as a superpower was the only thing that stopped Putin from nuking us for giving weapons to Ukraine. 2/2

With the national debt at nearly 100 percent of GDP, the federal government does not have a great deal of slack to deal with this fiasco. In a deep recession the entitlement portion of appropriations will swell. There may be flight from treasuries, with yields rising. Tariffs are another blow.
