Why does he pick this issue to focus on? It’s not top of mind for most Canadians. If you want to make the streets safer, bolster the mental health services and reduce the number of repeat offenders walking around committing thefts, vandalism and violence. That would be worthwhile.

Is there ever an appropriate time to use the notwithstanding lause? I don't know. I am certain that it should only be used after exhausting all reasonable alternatives, if at all. We must give deference to the charter and the principles for which it, and we stand.
