Israel was created because of the Holocaust, which was a failure of civilzation and resulted in mass murder on an astronomical scale. Returning the Jewish people to their ancient homeland and arming them against their many enemies was considered poetic justice. BTW ever heard of "Isolationism?"

It isn't poetry it's foreign policy and the driving force of our pre-war indifference to the escalating Final Solution: murder of all Jewish people the Nazis could hunt down. It led to a feeling of guilt which we resolved by recognizing Israel's right to exist in the post-War 40s.
