A new leader, and the race to choose one, easily moves this into the low to mid 40%. People are happy with Carney because there simply us no other adult as an option

We are happy with him because he is an intelligent, experienced leader, and arguably the best economist on the planet at a time when we face an economic crisis not of our making. The Cons have no one to compete especially with their outdated anti-science idiocy to run on.
Also, leadership sometimes just materializes... Carney did to save the election for the Liberals. Came out of nowhere fast...
Yeah, no. Lots of people want a more left-leaning leader... especially those that lent votes from the NDP. Too many are unhappy that he is more centrist than usual Liberal leaders. A Conservative that is slightly more centrist and more policy-driven (rather than drivel-driven) will siphon support
90% of voters wouldn't even be able to define the ideological spectrum let alone vote based on it. 70% of them vote along family tradition. Their parents were NDP/Lib/Con, so they cheer for the same team. But as my poli-sci class proved in the 80s...when given a comprehensive...
...ideology test, virtually the entire class saw was that voting Liberal best support their values and beliefs. All the PCs at the time were voting against their values. About half the NDP were. So, no, nothing to do with him being centrist. All that matters is he knows how to handle a bully.
It was pretty clear in the last election as the NDP supported the Liberals that you are incorrect in this case.
