It might be that it was just a player who had been temporarily transformed into another race by a toy or something like that. There's a lot of that going around nowadays.

Yeah there’s a thing you can buy on the AH now too where, I believe, you can disguise yourself as another race for a day? I can’t remember exacts here but I’ve seen people with them on and got super confused even though I’ve been playing forever 😂😂
