This is what Orange Man does not get. He may “win” in the short term but in the long run it is putting America last.

Indeed America was much more than “hard power” with allie’s before Trump. He deliberately dismantled a key element of 🇺🇸 as hegemon: soft power - fx persuasion and mutually beneficial corporation. 🇺🇸 is going down as an hegemonic power. It will still be an important country but never as before.
I am not sure that he is deliberately giving up soft power. He really lacks fundamental understanding of many domestic and international affairs. I don’t think he fully realizes what he’s giving up for short term gains.
Could also be true - that Trump have no understanding of it. He seems to believe the cake can only be divided - not grow.
That is exactly what he thinks. Mercantilism. Thoroughly proven not to work.
Indeed. Not an expert on it but historians has pointed out that Trumps tariffs was the common thing 200-300 years ago. Then states realized that taxing the others was not beneficial for trading. But ok - he wants to rebuild old industries in a protected 🇺🇸market. Dumb.
He does only care about himself, not the US.
He is self-serving but also very ignorant. For example, deporting people because he believes that immigrants are eating people’s dogs and cats. He doesn’t directly benefit from the deportations but creates policies from easily disproven stories from Facebook that he saw online.
I am not sure he believes those stories but I can not prove it. He just knows - like any fascist leader - that pointing at an internal “enemy” is how you get a lot of votes.
He says so many ignorant things that make him look stupid coupled with information sources being Fox News & social media for it not to be driven by ignorance. I do agree he will latch on to populist rhetoric like other fascists. However I don’t think it is a a Goebbels or Stalin level grand plan.
