What do you guys do with old digital art? My Procreate app is 145gb and it might be a good time to purge some of the oldies. I realize I'm kinda a digital horder: it makes me anxious think about deleting art or only keep a flattened versions. I need some positive examples to live my life by! ^^

I have gotten a lot of value out of looking through my old art now and then. I would say, just consider getting a hard drive to store shit on. Get a big one… replace it every few years if you can justify the cost and effort. Otherwise, try to save 10% of them.

Yeah I def like looking back, but I feel so bogged down by all the storage X_X so many hard drive and cloud backups and all of it feels really annoying sometimes.

I keep anything I can and periodically back it up on an external hard drive! Sometimes I’ll delete old pieces if I’m not attached to. Hope to also eventually print them out so I can make a scrap book collage of sorts with both my old digital and physical art so I have an alternate way to see it

It really is! I love looking back to see the memories but also the art progress. And you don’t have to get rid of any old art stuff! As long as you can store it and organize it why not keep it especially if it makes ya happy!

I would never delete old art, it might be scattered among different folders but still, that stuff you wanna carry with you. See if it's possible to get an external hard drive.

The best thing to do is transfer things to a backup drive (preferably on more than one drive just to be safe) instead of deleting them.

Unfortunately there's really no good way to store digital files for more than a couple decades max, so getting high quality prints of everything to tuck away somewhere safe is also a good idea in case the drive fails.

This is what I have been doing, but upgrading my cloud storage to 12TB so I can back it all up off site has me a little depressed 💸

Yeah, backups are a problem for me, too. I have to get more and more selective, and now I'm to the point where there's not really any unimportant stuff left to not select. 😅

Some of the stuff I have is from school and so old. Some things don't have programs that can open them lol I think I need to do some spring cleaning and organized TuT I am also kinda bad with keeping videos I've edited raw files / footage...... 😅

Yeah, the videos are what kills my space, but, like, what if I want to go back and edit something ...?

I sort them by file types into folders then put all those folders into a zip file on a USB drive.

Agreeing with the others that offloading to another drive is ideal! I have so many files I wish I had access to but forgot to save a second copy to another drive or even a cloud backup 😭

i never delete art. it's good to have the originals if the online copy gets taken down, and also if it gets stolen, so you can always prove yours is the original/oldest copy. images generally take very little space, too.

but this is mainly talking about the final image, not the wip layer file. i keep those too, but if you are really hurting for space, you could get a flash drive or external harddrive for extra storage, or consolidate some of the layers. i often use way too many, myself XD

I usually just move it to another device or usb/online service. If there's too much to move, I posted it all online so I could grab it later when I had more space.

I still have my old stuff archived. I haven't touched making Ultimate Team styled cards in years in favor of Race Day stuff, yet I still have my archive of Ultimate Team stuff that I worked on for over a decade. Same goes for my photo archives that I still add to.

Me either. My racing photo archive is approaching 3 TB of archived photo sets and screencaps from videos and I couldn't begin to think about getting rid of any of it since that is the lifeblood of my project right now.

You can't @ me @handle.invalid

Definitely an external drive. If you have a desktop you could even get an internal HDD as opposed to SSD. They are really cost effective and if you have an internal you can set up things to automatically copy your old work over

✨Bug✨ @radiochio.bsky.social

I just back it up in folders by year, or month/year, to an external drive and iCloud ‘cause I’ve lost stuff. 😅 Then it’s there if I need it for some reason. If you open your cloud storage of whatever kind and Procreate in the Split View thing, you can just drag the Procreate files over to storage.
