it currently feels worth reminding my compatriots of the second part of this point if your strategy is not working (because your opponent is both more powerful and so deeply irrational as to defy easy description) you should, actually, change your strategy

I had meant it about Canada, I actually have no idea if Ukraine's strategy is "working" beyond the simple observation that they remain capable of resisting so it is clearly working to some degree

this is especially true when your strategy actually IS harmful to your citizens, who have just temporarily forgotten this in a fit of widespread outrage

all of this is why I thought, and continue to think, that export taxes on various resources were the better counterplay but a) nobody asked me and b) there are tradeoffs to that too and I'm not pretending to be an expert on the economics of trade
