Also, at my current size, they're $63/month, or about $750 a year, which is a pretty significant secondary problem. Regardless, without a really strong T&S team, it's not even an option.

FWIW I’d pay $5 a month to support your writing and I’m sure there are at least a hundred others out there like me.
Seconded.
I appreciate the offer. I made SGW to be a gift to the community that saved my life. It will be free forever, and if there ever comes a point where it cannot be, I'll walk away before I monetize it.
🖤💙, Zoe.
yeah our writing newsletter doesn’t have tons is subscribers yet have you thought about just having a personal website with a personal Wordpress/blogging installation on it? I only pay a little over a hundred a year for the entire trans Tuesdays site and my web host has been great with T&S
That's been an emergency option, but I'm no coder. The labor intensiveness of building, running, and keeping updated a functional WP site would be a problem. Not insurmountable. But a problem.
so my host has an auto-WP installer and it’s pretty easy to set up and just takes a little patient poking to make the tweaks you want, and there’s tons of tutorials on how to do what you’re looking for. there’s tons of free things to customize (all mine are free!) and it requires zero coding
Hmm... I'll poke at it when I get the chance, see what it looks like. Admittedly, I haven't given WP a serious second look in about six or seven years because of the incident I mentioned. If they've streamlined things enough, maybe...
Also, there was that time where they served hardcore porn ads on a student of mine's senior portfolio. During her portfolio presentation. In front of her parents. That was a not-fun talk to have with the WordPress staff after. They were really apologetic, but I've been gun-shy ever since.
my wp site has no ads. If you host a personal installation on your own domain name and not the WP site, you control all of it and there’ll be no ads unless you put them there
anyway no presh or anything! but if you want to know more or help setting it up, I’d be happy to. It’s affordable and easy and secure with a huge staff to back you up with any problems. just lemme know 🩷
What do traffic serving costs look like?
I have unlimited traffic for my $125 or whatever it is per year. My podcasting company is hosted on the same account and move literally terabytes of traffic each year
Same, for what it's worth... My websites aren't amazing to look at, but that's largely because I'm not a web designer and insisted on building them by hand from scratch. You don't need to code in order to stand up a WordPress, post to one, or design its look and feel.
That's doable. Hmm....
Drama aside, if I went that route, I'd probably use Wix. At least they're WYSIWYG.
