This is a great idea. Three stages of beer drinking: 1. Don't pay attention to ABV. 2. Pay attention, but choose higher ABVs. 3. Pay attention, but choose the lowest possible ABV. Welcome to Stage 3! It's not that bad over here.

A lot of breweries near me pushed session beers 10-12 years ago, but a lot were phased out. My guess is they weren’t moving as fast as the higher abv options.
