Hey Paul. Do you not find tho that the rise of generative AI makes it harder to get students to do their thinking entirely for themselves? E.g., Grammarly is now AI-assisted and will edit your rough draft sentence by sentence. As for reading ... oops, got distracted, forgot what I was going to say.
I think it absolutely *will*, but I don't think we're quite there yet. That said, I haven't taught that course in a couple of years, so maybe they're in even worse shape now. But I don't quite yet these a big difference among my students writing papers in my other classes.
I fear we may be ahead of you on that score in Toronto.
