When was the last time Christians mass killed any woman for not wearing a habit? Sources please. Ill wait.
Christians mass killed WOMEN for nothing at all other than a finger pointed at their back. That faith isn't any more righteous than any other by that standard
Never said they were. I mad one simple point to oppose the five minutes of hate.
I know you asked for genocide of women for not wearing the hijab but it made me think of the Bosnian genocide and mass rapes in the 90’s perpetrated by Christian Serbs on the Muslims for wearing hijab/being Muslim
Yep thats off topic.
If you’re looking for Christian on Christian violence we can start a subthread
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGZk...
Not a hijab.
I know. It's a joke.
Never occurred to me in the 70s that all those women down the bingo in Cleethorpes were answering the muezzin’s call.
Also to hide the fact that they hadn’t been able to go and get their hairdos “set” again or to hide their curlers. What happened to head scarves? And curlers??
Until the late 60’s, hair was tortured into styles. Everything was styled and set to death. Then things loosened up and some women began to wear their hair long without being worked into sculptures. Curlers are still around but usually the big ones you use for only a little while
Being a nun is a choice. Nuns aren’t killed for removing their head covering.
Yes, or just as a fashion statement or to keep the hair from blowing in the wind. Our mother with headscarf on a windy beach.
I do like these old film star photos in B&W. Very beautiful.
Even with a fag in her mouth and a scarf on her head, Bardot looked perfect.
Some nuns have filthy habits!
Some women choose, some women have no choice. www.independent.co.uk/news/world/m...
Not the same. One, the nuns'habit, is donned due a job/office, voluntarily as the result of a personal choice. (At least in modern times). The other, the chador, is far too often forced on girls and women as a matter of a countrys' misogynistic laws or a mans' misguided ideas of purity and honour.
That is a False Equivelance. In Irapn and some other Muslim countries it is mandated that all woman wear the Chador and be completely covered. They have not a choice in the matter. When one becomes a Nun and wears the Habit it is because one chose that life knowing what was required going in.
No. Because to take religious vows is quite different than being forced to wear a hajib. When you have religious police who have been beaten woven because of non- compliance. It is not bigotry.
Yet when in a location lacking said police (such as the US) some CHOOSE to wear that hijab AS a symbol of their faith. In the end, if you don't know the reason, it isn't your place to judge. (And Christianity is JUST as oppressive, let's not pretend)
Well in the US right now they will just try to deport them!
Accurate: and this administration claims Christianity as well; so another in the category that Christianity is also used for cruelty. There's where people fail. They see how they're faith is misused but can't fathom that other faiths are being MISUSED. Muslim faith didn't condone this either
READ the Qu'ran, "there is no compulsion in religion", meaning Muslims have a choice too. It's called GOVERNMENT people.
And patriarchy.
YUP! Men thinking that women need to be "protected" and are "delicate". The same men who won't date women who make more money than them. A hoard of insecurity masked as masculinity seeking to own their women. It's disgusting. If your ego is that frail, you don't deserve a woman
I used to live with an Orthodox family and the women covered their hair. It was mostly cultural although there was a religious aspect to it. One Pascha they ALL said that they never got harassed prior to 9/11 and basically that it never stopped after that date.
Same here - I remember the older ladies wearing the head scarves when I was a little kid in the 60's.
I am bothered by all of this.
It used yo be sexy! Look at movies from the 50s and 60s—Hitchcock’s cold blondes.
I grew up in an era when women always wore hats to church..
Or a veil...
No. No. No. You obviously do not understand the difference between good and evil. Jesus is good, kind and believes in uplifting women. It is a nun choice. The other religion hates women, hates others religions and marriage young girls There is no choice.
PLEASE find me scripture "uplifting" women. Bet for every uplifting verse you give I can give 2 that oppress women. Your faith is yours, but to blatantly claim yours to be righteous and another evil when yours is guilty of equal atrocities is a pride your faith condemns.
Jesus love and trust women. When men take over religion then women are oppressed. Read about Martha and Mary. Read the story the woman at the well. Jesus never condemned abortion. Mary Magdalene first saw Jesus after he was risen. All stories to put women in a higher light. Bless you.
I remember purple haired old biddies being outraged that punks dyed their hair.
Good point!
Absolutely!
As a recovering catholic, that picture of a nun triggers my PTSD.
TBH the one on the right only bugs me if she’s being forced to wear it against her will. If it is her *choice* to wear it, then by all means rage on. The one on the left *signed up* for that veil when she became a Catholic nun, see. She knew what she was getting into. They aren’t created equally.
Good point.
Headwear with lots of coverage is not a mark of religion. People are afraid of things they dont know.
I remember my mom carrying a little rain bonnet in her purse back in the 1960's.
Look up the paradox of tolerance. It’s the nuns choice and she can take it off without punishment. If for example Iranians don’t wear the hijab they risk jail, hitting, perhaps death. To compare this with a scarf to protect hairdos, is a betrayal to oppressed women.
Incorrect. This is not the Tolerance paradox. The only choice that the woman on the right had was whether or not to become a nun. She has a uniform to wear in that role. The woman on the right might be wearing her hijab because she wants to. There are some women want to do just that.
Nobody has to become a nun. It’s her free will. Muslimas in many countries are free to wear a hijab or not. No problem. I spoke of those forced to wear it against their will because otherwise they are punished. That’s my mentioning of Iran. Not to speak out about this is wrongly applied tolerance.
Everything you said may be true, but that is t the point here.
It's not bigotry to dislike when something is forced upon another human being. If she wants to wear it that's fine, but that's not always the case. Be real .
💪💪💪
But forcing women to wear fewer clothes than they're comfortable with is absolutely definitely wrong.
true but when does that happen? Hooters?
France. They've banned burkhas and burkhinis. www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-e...
They both bother me tbh. But I let people live as they wish.
if you're fucking stupid enough to believe in fake gods you want to stay away from some of us. we don't tolerate stupid people who spew lies about fake gods that don't exist. be forewwwarned, brainwashed morons
One of those two is a right. The other is forced. By physical and psychological force.
Dad, why does Mom have to wear a scarf to church but you don't? It's the rules, son stop asking questions.
Both are equally corrupt and cruel.
The difference is women are forced to wear hijab, apparently becoming a nun is a calling. Fun fact: In 1965 they were over 180,000 Catholic sisters in the US now a fewer than 42,000 nuns are now in the US, a 76% drop.
Not all women are forced to wear them. The ones I've spoken to prefer it, and one said "it's lovely not to have to worry about my hair or makeup if I can't be bothered". Ultimately it should always be their choice. Don't buy in to the American propaganda.
Not all women are but what about the women who are forced, don’t they matter? And why can’t they just wear a hat? 🧢
Of course. But when was the last time these people actually went to a Muslim country and spoke to the women?
Well, I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve been to Egypt many times, I never felt it my place to discuss something like that.
Obviously it needs to be appropriate. I just don't understand why people feel so strongly about something without actually ASKING the people affected. They'd just rather believe what fox news shoves down their throats I suppose.
I agree with you, a lack of critical thinking and understanding history and culture, one of the things I have always loved about New York is we have so much diversity. Fox News has done an incredible amount of damage to this country. Have a wonderful day.
Agreed! I wish we could have made it to NYC, I've always wanted to go for that reason. Maybe in 4 years! You have a great day too ☺️
wow, Nadja, wake up.
I'm well awake thanks.
I'm with George Carlin, who said he would never belong to a church that makes you wear a hat or one that tells you you can't wear a hat.
One is by choice, the other by threats of violence. Racism and religious oppression are similar but not the same.
Two cults going to war
Incorrect Our mosque is next to a church. We help each other out. We have no hate. Only you. That's how we know we are on the good side.🙂
Clumsy play on words. From the Frankie goes to Holywood number, from the 80s. I never meant it to be taken to literally . It would help if religions got along
Hugs to @phantomgirl7.bsky.social
Thank you for standing up against all the hate ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm just gobsmacked by people who don't get that this is about looking at 2 people and judging them. Forget everything else, just think of 2 ordinary people walking down the street. I saddens me.
We just keep spreading the truth 🙂
I don't think women should have to cover up and walk around outside under an individualized tent, act like they don't have hair, or necks, or ears, or bodies for any religion. It is abusive of an entire gender. Men imposing a virtual near anonymity in appearance on women.
Agreed, but many of the same people freaked out about a Muslim woman wearing a head scarf have no problem with a Christian nun wearing one. That's the point.
Well to me, both are the result of male dominated religious patriarchies telling women to cover up because the dudes never learned how to just treat woman as peers and individuals, rather than seeing them as sexual objects. Some people accept a status quo they grew up with as more ok.
Absofuckinlutely
As long as it's their own choice.
It’s always Muslim women’s own choice too 🤦🏻♀️
Some women have died over their freedom to walk with the wind in their hair. Your "always" is not true.
No one cares what you think
Do you not agree that people should choose for themselves? Wtf is wrong with you?
No, I don't.
Are you choosing for yourself or who is choosing for you? Who made these rules? What is life all about? Why do you think women should not have a choice? To me this sounds insane and unacceptable. Freedom is worth everything.
You sound like a madman.
Unable able to answer a simple question? Why talk to people when you don't want a conversation?
I don't care about people of falsehood
I tend to agree but "choice" is a loaded word. I'm thinking of being "forced" to wear a suit and tie to the office, a uniform in school (girls sometimes skirts), headwear in certain jobs... ...not quite the same I agree, but...
Women have have suffered and died for that choice. Don't kick their dead bodies. Thank you.
I am muslim and I am free
They both bother me.
Memories of seeing 1960s headscarves and perms come flooding back….aaaargh😉
Oh yeah. Grew up in a salon raised by a hairdresser mom. I can smell the chemicals just thinking about it. lol
Both my mum and my two nans...and Les Dawson and Roy Barrowclough in their recurring sketch...
Hilda Ogden...
Nuns are scary!! 🤪
And how about the Iranian man who has received 75 lashes for saying that women there should be allowed 'not' to wear the hijab?
How about if BOTH of those pictures bother me?
I was brought up strict Christian 2Tone, Sunday School the works etc etc, anyway aged 10 I knew the vicar had eyes for me at SS, platinum blonde hair, piercing blue eyes, dimples the works pal, so to escape his dark desires I pissed in the font, it worked, was barred for life, my holy water 🖕😂😂😂❤️🔥🕊️🌟🙏
LOL - good girl!!
What part of my script makes you think I’m a girl my friend 🤷♂️😂😂🕊️❤️🔥🌟🙏
LOLOL
Mind you pal, I don’t think the Vicar was fussy, as long as your feet didn’t touch the floor when you take a shit, you where young enough for him 🤢🤮🤢🤮🤬🖕. No offence taken pal, you should see me in drag ( not ) 😂😂🫵🕊️❤️🔥🌟🙏
Funny as fuck, respect!
And to you as well pal 😘😂🕊️❤️🔥🌟🙏
The Queen, for instance, rocked the good old headscarf like a pro
Both bother me and neither do. CONTEXT MATTERS. Not all women in hijabs are forced; some women are forced into becoming a nun. Both can be voluntary, both can be forced; when FORCED neither is ok.
Gonna add; Lot of people don't bother to read. So I'll help; in the Qu'ran it is taught "there is no compulsion in religion", meaning Muslims have a choice. Want to know why they don't? GOVERNMENT. In the 90s women wore their hair down. The FAITH isn't the problem, the government is.
I grew up with the nuns. Turned me into an atheist. I Def didn't want to be either of these women.
I am muslim and I am free. 🙂
True, Jackie O and Royals: HMQEII, sister HRH Princess Margaret, HRH Princess Margaret - all now belated - we're prolific headscarf fashionistas! #SilkScarves
Of course the woman on the left chose that life.
Indeed, and they were chiffon!!!
Had to wear a hat to church! Trousers 😱 For those who choose to cover their hair for whatever purpose there is no reason for others to have input. Where people are forced to wear or not wear specific clothing by others (uniforms & safety clothing aside) is a problem!
I think people lash out because they don’t understand the person on the right. They have been taught that headgear represents danger/bad.
I'm atheist, I don't believe that ANY woman need cover their hair or face to satisfy religious rules, however I DO believe that it is each individual persons right to decide what they wear, it is quite simply none of MY business.
Exactly! If they chose to . Not if their religion makes them do it , otherwise, they will be punished.
Couldn't agree more.
Can nuns remain in the club if they chose not to wear the outfit? Would they not be excommunicated if they chose not to follow the dress code? 🤔
Point is, it's a personal choice, we no longer force women into convents, I would rather there were NO nuns, priests etc, but that's not the world we live in, my point is about a person's right to choose (for themselves only) what to wear or not to wear & when, without fear of punishment.
Excommunication for believers is punishment, not unlike taking off the hajab and leaving the faith. I see no difference. I believe it is all nonsense. I just don't see much of a difference. Nuns chose to wear the clothing as part of their faith. They can not stay nuns without wearing it.
I'm only familiar with Catholic law where the first law for a nun is of obedience. If they choose NOT to wear the uniform they ARE free to leave the convent, they are NOT excommunicated. I agree, nonsense & not for me, I'd ban religion, choice is my point, I’ve no right to dictate another's choices.
I am a staunch atheist. I know of a local lady who divorced her husband and was ostracized by her Christian church. A nun can't be a nun without wearing the outfit in Catholicism. There are several Muslim countries that don't require wearing it. Pakistan for example. Lebanon many don't wear it. 😜
The Catholic Church hasn't required nuns to wear a habit since Vatican II in the 60s. It seemed like most continued to wear it at the time but that has slowly changed over the years. I've known way too many nuns in my life and none of them have worn one for decades now.
My understanding is that nuns and sisters are different. Each order of cloistered nuns - such as Benedictine, Carmelite, Dominican, Franciscan has its own distinctive habit. If a nun states they refuse to wear what is expected there is a consequence for that refusal. I still see no difference.🙂
I'm bothered by every religion. I don't discriminate one from another. All are nonsense.
That is why religion is protected by bigotry like you.
I'm a bigot because I don't think cults should exist? Yes, all religions are protected as well as the LACK of religion.
You are a bigot. It's discrimination Don't hate.
💯💯 boom. Their hypocrisy is astounding…. Brilliant post 💙
Agree wholeheartedly 💯
All my mothers generation wore hair coverings. Whether doing housework (turban style) to going shopping (headscarf) or church (hat) .
Both are dumb
Says the hateful bigot
In what specific way?
Saying me,my kids and 2 billion others are dumb. You would never say that at a work place becuae laws protect us. I would never call someone that...never. no matter what religion.
My grandmothers both wore chadors. I come from a country where hijab is the law and you’ll be tortured and killed if you don’t wear it. I said the things both those women wear are dumb. I said nothing about you and your kids. I also think Crocs are dumb, am I being a bigot to Crocs wearers? No. /1
I can say your clothes are dumb at work. Is it necessary? No. Can I say it? Yes. You weren’t offended at me saying a Christian nun’s habit is dumb, why not? I wear a lot of sweatshirts. If some stranger called sweatshirts dumb I wouldn’t take it personally nor apply it to billions of others. /2
I was raised in a Muslim country by a Muslim family. You want me to be a bigot so badly you’re applying something to yourself, choosing to be offended. Go ahead. Makes zero difference to my life, enjoy your hate 🫶🏽
I am still in the right becuase And you would never call anyone that at a workplace It's wrong. and against the law We are teaching people peace and you are teaching hate. If you send out hate it hurts so many. Try and be kind.
It’s not against that law to say someone’s clothes are dumb in any setting. I’m not calling you dumb, I’m calling the clothes dumb. By the way, we are currently on social media, we’re not at work. Puzzling why you’re not offended over the xtian nun’s habit while you pretend everyone is a bigot 🤷🏽♀️
Well you continue to put people down by how they look. I will continue to help people regardless of the way they look
But they have always been signs of subservience to males.
Wow!! Thanks for this perspective!! So true!!
I don’t think it’s my bigotry. The one on the left is voluntary. The one on the right, and worse, is often forced. If a woman wants to cover her hair and/ or body that’s her business. But she should never be forced.
I totally agree. If one chooses not to be a nun, you won't be shunned by your society. It's a choice. In many societies that repress female independence & freedom, failure to comply comes with consequences, sometimes severe. I'm not a fan of any religion, equally. Religion is a tool of control.
The one on the left is also forced. They have uniforms that they are required to wear.
Are they forced to become nuns? Also, many orders have much more modern clothing now and don’t cover their heads.
There are nuns that are forced; there are women who willingly wear a hijab. Your argument doesn't hold the water you think it does as is.
You decide to be a nun. You can leave at anytime and also let's face it a lot of nuns no longer wear the traditional garb. Still, my problem isn't with wearing either voluntarily, but don't pretend it's voluntary in a lot of Muslim countries. It's forced sometimes violently.
And how are they forced? Are they forced by manipulation? Fear? Guilt? All of the above and more? And you TRULY believe no one is forced into faith in Christianity? XD My point is claiming offense by one and not the other is being wilfully ignorant to "the other" . Both can be voluntary or forced
Are you kidding. www.theguardian.com/global-devel...
In some countries covering is mandatory. Many women are forced to even cover their faces. I’m not catholic but it is my understanding nuns opt to serve the church.
Covered this throughout the comment so forgive me if my only response to this is please go re-read. You missed... everything.
Many countries, actually, if women don't cover themselves, they are punished and severely. I'm not religious, but you really can't compare .
I'm not directly comparing if you read my comments. The terms of punishment aren't being compared at all. I'm not saying one is worse, that's a comparison dear. I said they are BOTH bad.
I think many have extended a relatively simple idea into something that it isn't in the Skeet... I despair really...
Yes well.... the refusal to acknowledge the hypocrisy here is really the point
Indeed it is...and any extension beyond that is just a bit silly.
Bone saw meets Bonespurs
Are those Birkenstocks?
Maybe!!
They look like they have zero arch support. Not good
I'm not a fan of any religion or their idiot choices in clothing imagine being all powerful, and giving a shit about such trivialities 🙄
Organized religion is generally very oppressive towards women, so can't claim to be a fan of either. It's a near impossible situation for women to leave, seek help or services. That being said, muslim children will likely take on more aspects of their surroundings if given a chance.
List the ways I am disadvantaged
I had a Muslim coworker from Somalia who started covering her head. She explained it made her feel more virtuous and closer to God. More power to her. As long as it's not forced upon women.
She had a choice. Others do not, but nuns had always covered their heads as respect to GOD, Catholic women wouldn't enter a church without something on their heads. A different, NON-Christian religion calls for this and its suddenly WRONG!
It was a common sight at one time - almost a mark of respectability. Also, women attending Catholic Churches always covered their heads.
It used to be a thing in Anglican churches too. Iirc it comes from St Paul saying women should cover their hair. He's got a lot to answer for, not just that.
They both bother me.
The evil one on the left, is responsible for the anti-semitism on college campuses!😡 The person on the right, is a follower of the religion of peace!☺️ Women of Islam, have unfettered freedom, especially in Afghanistan and the Middle East. They can’t even hold political office, here!😔
It's not quite the same as the first is voluntary, the second compulsory in some sects. It's a way of keeping women in their place, subservient to men.
👍🏾💙
Both Scarves are religious.... Where is it in the Bible that women's heads should be covered? The kuran? The Torah? Others. Scarves a head are similar to a wedding ring. SIGNS OF STATUS.
Yet no one talks about some Jewish women wearing wigs to hide their hair.
Always puzzled me how those ultra orthodox women thought that God wouldn’t see through them following the letter of the law like this.
That's a fair point.
TY 😎
I always found that kind of headwear kinda hot.
