Navigation, storm management, weather and "wtf" repairs are my thing. I'm awful at ropework. As far as I'm concerned, nobody needs to know more than a bowline, rolling hitch, reblinka (I don't know the English word for fender knot) and, oddly, Carrick bend :)

A Carrick bend is fantastic for joining lines if you pull it tight, and decorative if you leave it loose and manipulate it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrick... I should learn the prussic loop as I'm up masts quite a lot, and my approach is frankly suicidal - one hand, one foot - clip on if you can...
