A native tribe gave money to Ireland in the middle of the famine. I forget which one. Britain was exporting food while people were starving because they did not want people to become dependent on welfare.

It was the Choctaws, donated £170 (£5000.00 in today’s money) in 1847. There is a sculpture dedicated to this in Cork named kinder spirit, and a commemorative plaque in Dublin. Ireland has provided scholarships to Choctaw nation in thanks with 1st student taking this offer up in 2019
Right. I remember Britain being especially cruel to the Irish which makes Northern Ireland all the more infuriating.
It was the Choctaw Nation that gave Ireland the money.
Visit the Choctaw memorial at Midleton, east Cork. It's a wonderful sculpture.
and ireland has reciprocated. when the feds were trying to build the pipeline at standing rock, many irish came over to stand with the water protectors.
That is so cool!
The Choctaw Nation. They had an incredible history of deprivation themselves, forced off their lands in 1831, and embarked on a 500-mile trek to Oklahoma called “The Trail of Tears.” Ironically the man who forced them off their lands was Andrew Jackson, the son of Irish immigrants.
